DeElda Heritage Area is a gift from Helen DeElda Gunderson to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation in October 2011 in memory of her grandmother, DeElda Lighter Gunderson. It consists of 60 acres that include a Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) prairie sowed in 1998 with a diverse mix of local ecotype seed from Carl Kurtz, permanent pasture that has never been plowed and has not been grazed since the 1970s, and transitional organic crop land.
