A PORTRAIT OF MAIN STREET
POCAHONTAS, IOWA

In the early 1990s, Ruth Ahlrichs, director of the Pocahontas Public Library, had a vision for producing a video about the town, focusing on the history of its Main Street district. She had already done a lot of research and collected old photographs. Then in 1992, she contacted Helen, who grew up on a farm between Rolfe and Pocahontas, and they collaborated to conduct oral history interviews and produce the video, which is based on those interviews. It was supported in part by a grant from the Iowa Humanities Board.

The people interviewed included Carol Hallman, Eleanor Flaherty, Darlene Hudek, Jim Hudson, Emanuel Kraska, Charles Mayo, Leonard Olson, Howard Pattee, George Stockdale, Pat Sturtz, and Justin Tolan.

The steering committee included Ruth Ahlrichs, Carol Hallman, Darlene Hudek, Charles Mayo, Annie Olson, and Leonard Olson. (total length 28:00)
