Pullet chick-sharing-time again. Every two years, I order 30 pullet chicks from Hoover’s Hatchery in Rudd, Iowa, with the intent to keep about 14 and be assured that if some die, I will still have 9-10 laying hens for the next two winters.
This year is no different. I have already given away three of the new flock that shipped on May 8. The rest remain sheltered 24/7 in their hotel in the garage. They don’t know yet the wonders of the outdoors and chicken run because I dare not let them go there because they are still small enough that they could escape through small gaps in the system.
I received 15 assorted brown egg layers and 15 assorted colored egg layers and will want to retain as much diversity as possible. If you have interested in having some, let me know.
